Boarding Schools in Wisconsin
Wisconsin is the 30th state of the United States. It is located in the north central region of the United States, part of the American Midwest which also includes 12 other states. It is also part of the Great Lakes region, bordering Lake Superior to the north and Lake Michigan to the east. To the west is Minnesota, Iowa to the southwest, and Illinois to the south. Wisconsin is the only northern state that does not share a border with Canada.
Due to its unique soil, the Antigo Silt Loam, which is among the most extensive soils in the state and rarely found outside of the county, agriculture is a dominant industry in Wisconsin, and it is often perceived as a farming state. It produces about a quarter of America's cheese, leading the nation in cheese production.
Along with Michigan and Minnesota, Wisconsin was among the pioneers of the emerging state university movement immediately following the American Civil War in the late 1860s. By the turn of the century, Wisconsin Idea philosophy was applied to the University of Wisconsin System which emphasizes service to the people of the state, and fostering contributions to the state by educational institutions in the forms of "serving in office, offering advice about public policy, providing information and exercising technical skill, and to the citizens in the forms of doing research directed at solving problems that are important to the state and conducting outreach activities."
