Boarding Schools in North Carolina

North Carolina is the 12th state of the United States of America. It is located in the South Atlantic region of the United States, bordered by Atlantic Ocean on the east, Tennessee on the west, Virginia on the north, South Carolina and Georgia on the south.

It consists of three main geographic sections which influence its climate, the coastal plains which have mild winter and moderate summer due to its closeness to the Atlantic Ocean, the Piedmont region which has hotter summers and colder winters than the coastal plains, and the Appalachian Mountains and foothills which have relatively cool summers and very cold winters. The mountains offer a natural barrier that blocks colds northern western winds from entering the Piedmont of North Carolina. Overall, the state is classified to have a humid subtropical climate.

North Carolina is among the first thirteen colonies to be admitted into the union, or more precisely, the 12th state to be admitted into the United States after the ratification of the Articles of Confederation. As such, the state has an important role in all stages of the United States history.

According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, North Carolina's total gross state product in 2010 was $424 billion, ranking as the 9th wealthiest state in terms of GDP.
The state is a major global player in agriculture, manufacturing and financial services. It is also the leading producer of tobacco in the country.

Recent key changes in North Carolina's educational system have resulted to positive growth in the last few decades. As such, North Carolina's educational system is well developed. According to recent report released by The College Board, 18% of North Carolina's high school students earned a score of 3 or better on at least one of the 2011 Advanced Placement (AP) exams. Participation of the AP exams has also grown continuously, with approximately 30 percent of the state's high school seniors had taken at least one of the exams that same year.

According to various official sources, North Carolina's student dropout rates have reached a new record low, as well as acts of crime and violence committed on high school grounds. This has led North Carolina to be named among the best places for a high school student to study.
