School ratings surprising for many Arizona schools
Many of Arizona's schools came under fire when parents began asking questions why their schools got mediocre scores of B or C under Arizona's new letter grading system for rating schools. The new letter grades system for schools, which was put into effect in 2011, was derivative of Florida's, where the elementary standardized test scores had been consistently high. Legislators such as Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction John Huppenthal have been pushing to have the same system in Arizona, and it resulted in redefining what makes an Arizona school outstanding.
Arizona schools will have grades of A, B, C, D and F, and this will be an important factor to parents who wish to know how the schools they have chosen will stack up in a report-card format. The new system will also motivate schools to push average and above average students to strive harder, since it will reflect on their scores as well.
